Anyone can pour and gulp, but it takes some learning and practice to recognize and distinguish a wine’s characteristics. Now, take the opportunity to work on your oenophile skills in the privacy of your Vallarta villa with one of the best sommeliers in the bay area, Sarah Stewart, from the award-winning Café des Artistes in Puerto Vallarta.

Sarah will select five red or white wines or a combination, according to your preference, from the finest wine producers to be found in the restaurant’s extraordinary wine collection and bring them to your home along with everything necessary for the perfect wine-tasting experience, from snowy decorative tableware to the perfect wine glasses, bottled water and fresh bread.

Although the wine entices, there will first be an introduction, appropriate to the level of the group’s knowledge, where the sommelier will explain something of the history of wine and vineyards in Mexico, as well as the particular types of wine to be tasted. There will be information about tasting techniques, terms and how smell and taste are integral to the enjoyment of wine. Finally, a trained waiter will pour the wines, and a guided tasting will follow while Sarah chats about the wines with you, making comparisons, eliciting your comments and answering any questions. If you wish, Café des Artistes can provide for a cheese-tasting at the same time or simply a luscious cheese tray to complement the wines.
